My dog Emerson was once gently knocked over by a four-inch
high wave in Lake Michigan, and ever since that time he avoided the water. I’d take him to the dog beach—a beach, I might add, that cost $60.00 a year to join—and he’d mosey on over to the nearest person and sit in his or her lap. He wouldn’t swim or play with the other dogs, oh no. He’d sit. I decided that $60.00 was a lot to pay for something that he could easily do at home with me, so we stopped going. But the whole experience did give me the idea for this book.
I was incredibly thrilled when I got the call from Lin Oliver from SCBWI, telling me that There Might Be Lobsters had won The Golden Kite Award for Picture Book Text. It was definitely the highlight of my career!
I’ve been so lucky with illustrators. Laurel Molk did an amazing job!
Sukie is the cutest pup ever, and I love Eleanor’s pluck!
